My journey into the hair industry started over 10 years ago when I began apprenticing at a salon in my hometown of Thunder Bay, ON. After learning the basics, the next step was going to hair school, which brought me to my new home, Ottawa. I graduated with honours from Algonquin College's Hairstyling Program in 2012 and have worked in the downtown core ever since. I have always wanted to have my own hairstyling space, so the next path for me was to become my own boss and why I opened Megan Porter Hair.
A common question I am asked is "What is your favourite thing about your job?" and truthfully, I enjoy all aspects of my job. Whether it's creating a really fun new haircut for someone, refreshing your highlights or colour, or teaching you how to blow dry or curl your hair, it's all exciting to me and every day is different.
I also love staying on top of education and try to attend a few classes every year to keep up with what's new and trending or just to refresh my skills.
